Madison, Wisconsin, December 20, 2022 – Horizon DBM, an industry leader in real estate development, construction, and apartment management with an affordable housing specialty, today announced that Dan Fitzgerald will step down from his position as Chief Executive Officer and President of Horizon Development Group, Inc. and Horizon Construction Group, Inc. as part of Horizon’s succession plan, effective December 31, 2022. Horizon has elected Mick Hintz, to succeed Dan Fitzgerald as Chief Executive Officer and President of Horizon Development Group, Inc. and E. Jay Gering as President of Horizon Construction Group, Inc., effective January 1, 2023.
Mr. Hintz, Horizon’s incoming CEO, commented, “On behalf of the Horizon Shareholders and employees, I’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Dan for his 23+ years of service to the Company, which included roles as CEO, President, Director of Business Development and Development Manager. During his tenure, Horizon has grown considerably and has established itself as an industry leader in the affordable housing and construction industries. His development knowledge and focused leadership over the past seven years as CEO has earned him the utmost respect of Horizon’s employees and customers as well as key leaders throughout the industry. Dan’s tremendous efforts have helped strengthen Horizon’s values-based culture, as established by their founder and previous partner, Chuck Heath, and is reflected in the Company’s ongoing mission to provide integrated services and resourceful solutions.”
Mr. Fitzgerald added, “I am honored to have led Horizon as its CEO over the past seven years and very grateful for the many opportunities and experiences I’ve had throughout my career. The Shareholders are pleased to announce Mick Hintz as Dan’s successor. Mick’s promotion was the result of a strategic and deliberate succession planning process through which we expect a seamless transition as Mick assumes his new role. Mick joined Horizon in June 2012 and has been a Shareholder since 2017. Mick brings a proven track record of leadership, and we are confident that Mick will help strengthen Horizon’s market position throughout all our companies.

Mr. Gering joined Horizon in October 2005 as the General Field Superintendent and has held the roles of Safety Director and Vice-President of Horizon Construction Group. Mr. Gering commented, “The Horizon Team is the strongest I have seen in our 39-year history, and I am humbled to take on this leadership role”.
Mr. Kwiecinski joined Horizon in 2003 as a development intern and has held the role of Development Manager as well as principal. Scott continues to be active in all aspects of Horizon’s development projects and will expand his role to assist in growth of the company.
